So, I had been seeing this guy for a few months and things were pretty cool between us…We talked and saw each other often…really enjoyed each other’s company…all of that good stuff. Out of nowhere, our communication completely fell off for about a month or so. We were entrepreneurs and both of us had been on travel for various projects at that time, so I assumed he was super busy. I tried to maintain contact and reached out to him a number of times to no avail. I eventually fell back because I assumed that he wasn’t interested since he was unresponsive.
I received a text message from him out of blue stating that I had been in his thoughts. He also apologized for losing touch and mentioned that he and his family had been in mourning due to the loss of a close relative. I wasn’t going to sweat it because I understand that sh*t happens. So, I figured it would be best to let leave that whole disappearing act behind us.
Well, my birthday had just passed three days prior to him reaching out and his birthday was a couple of days away. So I thought we could make up for lost time by having a mini celebration with just the two of us at either his place or mine (I bake a mean cake!).
On this particular afternoon, I was at a client meeting and planned to give him a call in the evening to see when he was available to celebrate. I had some downtime during my meeting so I whipped out my phone to look on social media as per usual.
I logged onto Instagram and as I scrolled down my timeline, I came across this BANGING custom, birthday cake. I mean it was AMAZING! The caption read something to the effect of “Thank you to [XYZ Baker] for baking my boyfriend’s birthday cake! He loved it.” I didn’t think anything of it at first, but then my eyebrow began to raise as I zeroed in on the name on the cake and, of course, it was the nickname of the guy that I had been seeing. [This mother f***** had a girlfriend the whole time! He told me he was single! SMH!]
I didn’t want to jump to conclusions and decided to look at the additional images on this woman’s Instagram profile just to be sure. Low and behold, there was a picture of them together along with his friends celebrating his birthday. To make matters worse or more bizarre, the chick that made the cake is actually someone that I worked with previously, but quickly cut ties with due to her lack of professionalism. I can’t! What are the odds that I would be following this dude’s girlfriend and didn’t even know it and that she’d get a cake made by a chick that I don’t like? Lol This world is too small.
THIS DATE IS OVER!
I didn’t bother calling the guy after I had seen all of that, but he did call me a few days later. In true petty form, I asked what he did for his birthday.
Him: I went out with some friends. Hold up…Why didn’t you call me on my birthday?
Me: I didn’t want to interrupt you and your girlfriend.
Him: I don’t have a girlfriend.
Me: Interesting. No girlfriend huh? So how was the lavish birthday cake that your friend who’s not your girlfriend got for you. [#petty]
—Long Pause—-
Him: How do you know about my cake?
Me: Instagram told me. Apparently, I follow your “girlfriend” and didn’t even know it. I don’t know her or anything like that. I just happen to follow her.
Him: She’s not my girlfriend.
Me: Does she know that? lol
Him: She’s just trying to get back with me.
Me: Sure she is. [Clearly she’s winning because you went out with her!]
Him: I told her to take those pictures down.
I decided to remove myself from the situation and stopped talking to the guy because I didn’t want to get caught up in any of his mess. He could’ve been telling the truth about the girl, but I seriously doubt it. Now I know why he disappeared for over a month. Lol
Sincerely,
Enjoy That Cake
Should she have given the guy a chance? Do you think he was being honest? What would you have done in the situation?
