So I met and became friends with this guy named Tony (not his real name). I found him attractive, but never had the courage to really make a move because I was shy and didn’t know if he was remotely attracted to me. We eventually lost touch…nothing personal…we just didn’t communicate as much.
Fast forward a few months….
It was a normal afternoon and I was at home chilling [because I had nothing else better to do lol]. My phone rang and it was Tony!!!! I was brewing with excitement and simply couldn’t answer the phone quick enough. I made up my mind that I was going to stop being a punk and tell Tony how I felt so that we could get this romance/dating thing on the road.
We began to catch up…I told him how I was doing and he did the same. I told him what I had been up to and he also did the same. He told me he missed me and I let him know that I missed him too. He then said that he wanted to talk to me about something important and I was like “OH SH**! He feels the same way that I feel and wants us to start dating!!!!!” My body was doing all kinds of internal victory dances and my heart was pounding away because I just KNEW we were about to take this friendship thing to the next level.
But then Tony put me on hold and passed the phone to some guy named Ed…took the wind RIGHT out of my sail.
Ed: Hey Denise. I’m Ed. Tony has told me so much about you.
Me: Ummmmm hey Ed.
Ed: Tony mentioned that you were smart, ambitious, and just an all-around go-getter.
At that point, I was all the way confused because I wondered why Tony couldn’t tell me that himself. [Since when did Tony become all shy? Is this dude proposing to me or something through this Ed person? All I wanted was a date. Who the eff is Ed?] Anyway, Ed continued the conversation:
Ed: You see Denise, we’re building a team of go-getters and Tony had you at the top of his list.
Me: [scratches head] Ok? I’m not understanding.
Ed: We’ve started an e-commerce business and we’d like to add you to our team. All you have to do is come to this meeting, sign up to be on our team, and you’ll get your own e-commerce website for a small $300 investment.
It was at that moment my heart shattered into a thousand pieces!
This Date Is OVER!
I was so pissed that I flipped out on Ed. I told him that I was not investing $300 to setup some damn e-commerce site with a bunch of products (that I don’t buy) that people could get cheaper at Target. I then told Tony not to call me with that type of bullsh** ever again and, whelp, I haven’t heard from him since.
Damn! I thought we were going to get this thing poppin, but all he wanted was for me to join the “Money Team.” On the bright side, I’m glad I didn’t have a chance to divulge my feelings for Tony on that call and saved myself any further embarrassment…I guess. 🙁
Sincerely,
Thanks For Nothing Tony!
What would you do in this situation? Have you ever completely misread someone’s feeling for you? Would you have joined Tony’s “Money Team” and invested in an e-commerce site? Should she have told Tony how she felt and still tried to date him?
